A 43-year-old Winnipeg man is being held in custody after being charged with 75 criminal offences by Steinbach RCMP.

Police say John David Lemke committed a number of property related crimes in Steinbach and the surrounding area from the beginning of February to the end of March. He faces several motor vehicle theft, possessing property obtained by crime, arson, fraud and identity theft charges.

Two search warrants by police during the investigation uncovered $75,000 worth of stolen property, not including recovered vehicles.

Lemke was arrested in Surrey, B.C. and transported back to Manitoba to appear in provincial court.

Police said in a release on Friday that residents are reminded not to leave keys, wallets or other valuables inside vehicles, and to adequately secure houses, garages and vehicles.
