Apr. 5, 1938 -Sept. 3, 2018
I was diagnosed with esophageal cancer in January this year, and as you saw firsthand during these last months, I wasn’t ready to leave you! There were many more meals to share, games to play, and songs to sing. The universe however had other plans, and I passed away surrounded by my loved ones Monday, Sept. 3, 2018.
I was born on Apr. 5, 1938. The eldest of eight children born to my parents Alfred Vermette and Clarisse (nee Richard). My brothers Gilles and Jean-Paul left us too soon. Bernard, Eugene, Roger, Yves, Suzanne, and I remained very close! A life-long bond created by a hard, rural life as children and sharing in each other’s good and difficult times as adults. My dad’s passing and mom’s remarrying gave me another sister, Fleurette, and brother, Robert. I’m so thankful for the love and support I’ve received from all of my brothers and sisters!
I already miss my grandkids Janelle, Serge, Justin, Danielle and Taylor and the newest little light in my life, great-grandson Jude! You have been the greatest gifts I could have ever received! Thanks to you and my amazing iPad skills, you let me peek into your lives! I was able to "like" your pictures, use heart emojis, and post "l love you!"
In a lifetime of countless happy moments, my greatest joys were seeing Rachelle, Paulette, Denise and Yvette grow into strong, smart and beautiful women! Each one an amazing individual! I loved hearing them sing karaoke tunes. Never one for being left out, I used my right as their mom to sing with them!
Gerry, my son! There are no words to describe the emotional roller coaster that was your life and mine. I am extremely thankful that you found your way to me and your sisters.
Victor, I hoped to celebrate our 60th wedding anniversary this upcoming November, but 59 years is nothing to sneeze at. Every family faces similar individual challenges, but fate decided that we should experience many of them. The sudden death of our young son Denis and eventually entrusting our daughter Celine to the care of St Amant were heartbreaking, but we persevered. Our love and commitment to each other and our children pulled us through!
We had a great life together! We shared a passion for good times, music, dancing, friends and family! We were never rich in money, but we were the envy of many! Your love for me was never more evident than during this past year. You helped me with my battle every day and night!
I am so grateful to my family and friends who cared and prayed for me. I also appreciate the care extended to me by Dr DeMoissac and the staff of Ste Anne Hospital.
Independence was always very important to me! I never wanted anyone to worry about me, so please don’t worry or feel sorry for me now! Remember the great times we shared as family and friends! I will wait for you!
