Helen passed away peacefully with family by her side at the Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach,

at the age of 84.

Helen will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Debby (Brian) Strong, June (Don) Elliot, Dawna (Doug) Knutt; nine grandchildren: Morgan (Tina) Strong, Holly (Greg) Storey, William (Jenn) Elliot, Scott (Jennifer) Knutt, Barry (Autumn) Knutt, Kyle (Christie) Knutt, Shaun (Niki) Edwards, Shannon (Ben) Edwards, Justin (Holly) Edwards; many great grandchildren and her brother Sandy (Carmen) Grant.

Helen was predeceased by her cherished husband Barry of 57 years and son Ron in 2008; her parents Grace and Charles Grant and nephews Andrew and David Grant.

Mom was born in Winnipeg, moved to a farm south of St. Adolphe with her parents when she was five. She attended Balmoral Boarding School and University of Winnipeg to complete her schooling. Mom and Dad met the fall of 1951 and were married at the Grant Farm, June 27, 1953. They farmed near the Edwards homestead in the Otterburne West Community for 57 wonderful years. Mixed farming and raising four children made a full family life.

Mom belonged to the Otterburne West Ladies Group. She helped organize monthly Record Hops for the youth at the Otterburne West Hall, and was a leader for the Otterburne West 4-H Combined Club. Mom could drive anything on the farm, so was up for the challenge of obtaining her school bus driver’s license. She was a spare bus driver for many years throughout the late 60’s and 70’s.

In 2010 Mom and Dad made their home at the Niverville Credit Union Manor. They were so well cared for by the staff that it was soon called "Home Sweet Home". Mom was a caregiver all her life, caring for Dad during his life with ALS. She showed strength, compassion, humor and dedication. When diagnosed herself with COPD in 2010, she continued to have an adventurous nature and enjoyed life and living at the manor.

The family would like to thank the Home Care Attendants, NCUM staff, Niverville Pharmacy, Corey Wall, Pastor Leslie and the Morris United Church. Mom felt truly thankful for all the people in her life. She enjoyed the phone calls, visits, daily trips, treats, flowers, laughter and stories. Mom always remarked "How can I ever thank you enough." and "How lucky am I."

A celebration of life service was held, Saturday, August 25th at the Morris United Church, Morris, MB. A private family inurnment took place at the Otterburne West Cemetery.
