Olga Wiebe (nee Kraynyk), of Gretna, MB, passed away on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 at the Altona Memorial Community Health Centre.
Olga was born on Aug. 30, 1928 to Marina and Jakob Kraynyk, and raised in Sirko (south of Sundown), MB. She was the second youngest of nine children (six brothers and two sisters). She attended Sunbeam School. In 1944, she met Abe Wiebe, of Gretna, and they married in 1946. Soon after they welcomed their first child, James, followed by Jennifer, Jack, Judi, and Charlotte. They lived on the farm northwest of Gretna until 1967 when they moved into Gretna. Olga worked on and off the farm. For years she worked at the BeetLoader and ran the clubhouse at the Oakview golf course; she was also a seamstress, and finally a health care aide.
Family was central to Olga’s life. She loved being with family and friends, and cooking. Family visits were high points, her love often expressed through the hours of cooking and baking. She enjoyed having people over, and going out with friends. She appreciated and supported her community. She was involved with many community groups including the Gretna Curling Club and Gretna Prairie Centre. Her faith was important to her.
Olga is survived by her children, Jennifer, Jack (Rita), Judi (John) and Charlotte (Bruce); her grandchildren, Robin, Melissa, Vanessa, Jonathan, Jesse, Veronica, Ryan and Thomas; and her great-children, Tanner, Kaden, Clark, Lily, Tabitha, Lucas, Paisley and Rylan. She was predeceased by her husband Abram (Abe) P. Wiebe, her son James, her parents Jakob and Marina (Mary) Kraynyk, all her siblings, and son-in-law Isaac.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Olga’s memory to the Altona and District Palliative Care.
