SUSAN HIEBERT
(NEE WIEBE)
Mar. 30, 1924-Nov. 30, 2018
Susan Hiebert of Niverville, MB passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, Nov. 30, 2018 at 94 years of age.
Our mother was born in Steinbach to Reverend Peter and Helen Wiebe. When she was young her family moved to the Niverville area. Living on a farm, she soon learned to milk cows and stook hay. In her late teens, Mom worked for Mrs Stoesz, a neighbour, who treated her like a daughter. At the age of 15, she met Jake (Victor) Hiebert and they were married five years later, in 1944.
In their early marriage, Mom and Dad lived in Winnipeg and during that time Carolee and Shirlee were born. After a move to northwestern Ontario for two years, they returned to Manitoba and settled in St Vital (Winnipeg) where Les was born. In 1957, the family moved to the Niverville area and after that Murray was born. In 1965, they went to Alberta for three years and then once again returned to Niverville. At that time, 11-year-old Ray was adopted.
Shortly after retirement, Mom and Dad moved to Steinbach and became active in ministering to seniors and doing visitation. In 2007, they settled once more in Niverville and then moved into "The Manor." After Dad’s passing in 2011, Mom had an injury that confined her to a wheelchair. When dementia became apparent, she moved into the Heritage Life Personal Care Home and lived there for the last 3½ years.
We remember our mother and grandmother as a woman who devoted herself to helping others. She enjoyed baking, cooking and gardening. We all loved her wonderful homemade buns and jams. A central focus of Mom’s life was her faith, which began when she gave her life to Christ at the age of 30. She and Dad served heartily in the various churches they attended. Mom wrote letters to missionaries, prayed for them and hosted them. She was part of a group that prayed weekly for the Youth For Christ drop-in centre. Mom loved reading her Bible and she taught us what it meant to follow Christ. Everyone in the family knew they could count on Grandma’s prayers.
We are so glad that she is now together with Dad in heaven. She will be missed by her children, Carolee (Ken) of Winnipeg, Shirlee (Larry) of Winnipeg, Les (Wendy) of Niverville, Murray (Debbie) of Otterburne, and Ray Duhamel of Surrey, BC; 16 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
As a family we are comforted by the words of Jesus, "I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying." John 11:25, NLT
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Word of Life Mission Church, Niverville, MB. The burial will follow at Hespeler Cemetery, Niverville, MB.
If friends so desire, donations in memory of Susan may be made to Youth For Christ Niverville.
