Aces down Habs, lead semis 2-0

Brenden Walker scored two goals to lead the Ste. Anne Aces to a 4-1 victory over the La Broquerie Habs in Carillon Senior Hockey League playoff action Wednesday night at Ste. Anne.

The Aces, who won the opener 7-4 last week at La Broquerie, now lead the best of seven semi-final series 2-0.

Ste. Anne jumped into a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Pat Normandeau and Yvan Pattyn. Braden Purtill countered with a powerplay early in the seccond for the Habs, before Walker scored twice for the Aces to give them a 4-1 lead after the second. Steph Pattyn and Keith Grondin each had two assists in the game for the Aces.

Both goaltenders turned in strong efforts in the game as Guy St. Vincent stopped 28 of the 29 shots he faced for the Aces, while Caden Unger was peppered with 45 shots at the other end as he made 41 saves in a losing cause for the Habs.

Game three in the series will be played Friday at 8:00 p.m. in Ste. Anne and game four Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at La Broquerie.

Meanwhile, the Grunthal Red Wings hold a 2-1 lead over the Red River Wild in the other semi-final series. Game four in that series will be played Friday at 8:00 p.m. at St. Jean and game five Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at Grunthal.
