Comets eliminate Mohawks

The final four have been set in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League playoffs. The Lorette Comets edged the Mitchell Mohawks 5-4 Thursday night at Mitchell to win their best-of-five quarter-final series 3-1.

Lorette, fourth place finishers during the season, will now face the first place Red River Mudbugs in the best-of-seven semi-finals. Dates have not yet been determined.

In last night’s game, Kevin Martin, with his second of the game, scored the winning goal with eight minutes remaining in the third.

The Mohawks, who were  a challenge for the Comets in the series, led 2-1 after the first and Lorette took a 4-3 advantage into the third. John-Peter de Jong had two goals and an assist for the Mohawks while Matthew Fehr added a goal and two assists.

The other semi-final series, pitting the St. Adolphe Hawks against the defending champion Springfield Xtreme, will get underway with game one Monday at 8:00 p.m. at St. Adolphe.
