Last season, the Steinbach Huskies won only one of their 25 games and had four points overall in a last place finish in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League.

This year, just three games into the 2018-19 campaign, the Huskies have already doubled their win output from last season, as they already have two victories.

The Huskies opened the season with a narrow 5-4 loss to the defending champion Red River Mudbugs, then posted a pair of victories this weekend, downing the Mitchell Mohawks 5-3 and then doubled the St. Adolphe Hawks 4-2.

One other game on the weekend saw the Grunthal Red Wings edge the Springfield Xtreme 3-2 Saturday night at Oakbank as Bailey Hiebert and Cole Scott scored two late goals for the Red Wings.

Red River and Lorette lead the standings with 2-0 records, followed by Steinbach at 2-1 and then Grunthal, now 1-1-1.

HTJHL action resumes Thursday night at St. Jean as Red River hosts Mitchell at 8:00 p.m. The Huskies are back in action Friday night in Steinbach as they entertain the Springfield Xtreme at 8:00 p.m.
