The Winnipeg Goldeyes will wear the Carillon Sultans uniforms this Sunday afternoon in their home game against the Kansas City T-Bones during their annual Hall of Fame Game that pays tribute to those teams and individuals being inducted next week into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame.

Winnipeg Goldeyes General Manager Andrew Collier says the Goldeyes have partnered with the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame for the past five years to showcase the inductees of that particular year.

Each year the Goldeyes wear the uniforms of one of the teams being inducted and this year it will be the Sultans, as chosen by the Hall of Fame committee. “The committee tells us which team it will be, said Collier, “and then we go out and get the jerseys made for the game that our players will wear in the game, we have made 30 jerseys for the game.”

The Carillon Sultans senior teams from the years 1998 to 2003 will be inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in Morden on June 1. The Sultans will be one four teams inducted on the night, along with several other individuals.

A powerhouse in senior baseball for more than a decade, the Sultans won the Winnipeg Senior Baseball League crown four times over this five-year period.

All inductees this year in all the categories have been invited to the Goldeyes Hall of Fame Game on Sunday and will be introduced prior to the game, but the Sultans have the special honour of the Goldeyes wearing their uniforms for the game.

Following the game, the former Sultans will also have an opportunity to buy the jerseys the Goldeyes wore in the game, with all the proceeds going to charity.

Sunday’s game at Shaw Park begins at 1:00 p.m., game three of the home opening series against Kansas City. The Goldeyes have had a strong start to the season, winning five of their first six games on the road, before returning home to Shaw Park this weekend.

The Sultans will be one two teams inducted into the Hall of Fame in the Major Category next weekend, along with the 2006-12 Brandon Cloverleafs. Also being inducted in the Small Community Category are the Springfield Juniors from 2007-2011.
