JV Sabres brace for provincial final

It will all be on the line tonight (Monday) at the University of Manitoba’s Investors Group Athletic Centre as the SRSS JV Sabres will face the St. Paul’s Crusaders at 8:00 p.m. in the ‘AAAA’ Boys Junior Varsity Provincial High School Volleyball final.

The Sabres went into this week’s provincial championships as the number one ranked team and are exactly where they wanted to be at this juncture, playing on Monday night at the U of M with the provincial title at stake.

SRSS went 2-1 in the round robin power pools Thursday at Dakota, which featured the top four seeds in their pool as the Sabres beat third ranked St. Paul’s and fourth ranked Dakota and lost to #2 seed Westwood.

In the playoffs, the Sabres got by Brandon Vincent Massey and then Dakota to advance to tonight’s final while St. Paul’s defeated Westwood in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, Gabrielle Roy captured the A/AA Boys JV title at Steinbach Christian this weekend, as the top ranked les Roy defeated sixth ranked Rosenort 25-16, 25-12 in the provincial final. Gabrielle Roy defeated fifth ranked Steinbach Christian in a close semi-final match, winning by scores of 25-19, 23-25 and 15-8.
