With a traditional Mother’s Day opening to the season, the Manitoba Junior Baseball League will kick-off their 2019 campaign on Sunday, May 12.

The Carillon Sultans will open their season at home at Ile des Chenes hosting the Pembina Valley Orioles in an afternoon doubleheader, with games slated for 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.

Along with Carillon and Pembina Valley the same seven teams are back in the loop this year as the Interlake Blue Jays, St. James A’s, St. Boniface Legionaires, Elmwood Giants and Altona Bisons round out the loop.

TERRY FREY/ THE CARILLON The Carillon Sultans will open their Manitoba Junior Baseball League season on Mother's Day as the Sultans host the Pembina Valley Orioles in an afternoon doubleheader at Ile des Chenes.

Each team will play a 24-game schedule. The Sultans will wrap up their regular season July 12 at St. Boniface.

The Sultans will again play some Sunday afternoon doubleheaders at Ile des Chenes with twin bills slated for May 12, May 26 and June 2.

In the past few years, the Sultans would also play single Wednesday and Friday games in Steinbach but Sultans’ manager Alex Grenier was told the diamond would not be available to the same extent this year in Steinbach and subsequently the team will now only play one home game in Steinbach and he says will instead play five of their home games at Charleswood Park in Winnipeg.

However, Grenier says plans are hopefully to play their playoff games in Steinbach.
