Manitoba dominant on the diamond at Canada Games

Manitoba’s Canada Games baseball team has burst out of the gates at the 2017 Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg.

Their hot play through the first two days of the baseball has matched the scorching hot weather that the athletes have endured since the Games got underway on Saturday.

The Manitoba baseball team, which includes Landmark’s Zach Giesbrecht and Yanyyk Nadeau from La Broquerie, are 3-0 in the round robin so far as they have beaten three Maritime opponents.

Manitoba crushed Nova Scotia 11-1 to kick off the Games Saturday night, then scored two more vicitories in the searing heat on Sunday as they defeated Newfoundland/Labrador 5-2 and blanked New Brunswick 5-0.

Team Manitoba will face another Maritime tonight at 7:00 p.m. at at Shaw Park as they face Prince Edward Island. Manitoba will wrap up the round robin Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. vs. Ontario at Elmwood in what will be clash for first place in their pool. Both teams are 3-0.

Meanwhile in mountain bike, Blumenort’s Carson Thompson finished 17th in the field of 28 riders in the cross-country race Sunday afternoon. Thompson will be back in action in the mountain bike relay which begins Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the Bison Butte Mountain Bike Course near Fort Whyte.
