Darby Gula again had his deft scoring touch on display for the Steinbach Pistons Saturday night on home ice at the T.G. Smith Centre as he scored the winning goal 3:26 into overtime to give the Pistons a 4-3 victory over the Virden Oil Capitals.

Gula, who also had an assist in the game, is the highest scoring defenceman in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League with 10 goals and 37 points in 31 games this season.

The Pistons skated to period leads of 1-0 and 3-1 as Drew Worrad figured in on all four Steinbach goals as he had a goal and three assists and now has 37 points in only 25 games this season.

Braden Purtill, with his 22nd of the season, and Brendan Martin had the other Steinbach goals. Kyle Salway, the leading scorer for the Oil Capitals, scored his 18th and 19th goals of the season in the third to force overtime.

Matthew Thiessen was strong in nets again for the Pistons as he made 32 saves to post the victory. Virden outshot Steinbach 35-31 in the contest.

With the win, the Pistons improve their first place record to 26-7-1-0, and a seven-point lead over the Winkler Flyers. The Flyers defeated the Portage Terriers 5-4 in a shootout last night while one other game, which also went to extra time, saw Selkirk defeat OCN 4-3 in overtime as those teams are all in a battle for second place behind the Pistons. Winkler has 46 points, Portage and OCN 45, Virden 44 and Selkirk 43.

The Pistons are back in action Sunday night in Steinbach as they host the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. at the T.G. Smith Centre.
