Posting his second shutout of the season, Steinbach Pistons rookie goaltender Matthew Thiessen, the leading puckstopper in the league, just continues to shine.

Thiessen backstopped the Pistons to a 4-0 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders Tuesday at the Bell MTS Iceplex at the MJHL Showcase, where each MJHL team is playing two games in front of a crush of scouts from all manner of university, college, junior and professional teams and leagues.

Thiessen was only tested 17 times in the win over the Stampeders but got the job done as he lowered his goals against average to a league-leading 1.96.

The Pistons dominated the Stampeders and quite frankly the 4-0 scored flattered Swan Valley as it could have been much more lopsided as the first place Pistons coasted to their fourth straight victory. Steinbach outshot Swan Valley 39-17 in the contest, including 15-4 in a scoreless first period.

But the Pistons broke through to score three times in the second period, two by Daniel McKitrick,  to put this game away.  Austin Heidemann and Mark Taraschuk had the other Steinbach goals.

With the win, the Pistons improve to 24-7-1-0, and a five-point lead on the Winkler Flyers and OCN Blizzard, who are tied for second with 44 points. The Blizzard beat the Flyers 5-2 at Tuesday’s Showcase.

Today the Pistons go up against the Dauphin Kings at 3:00 p.m. at the Iceplex. The Kings were 5-1 losers to the Winnipeg Blues on Tuesday.
