The last time the Steinbach Pistons visited the Yellowhead Centre in Neepawa, on Oct. 11, the hometown Neepawa Natives spanked the Pistons 6-1.

That scenario was not repeated when the two teams hooked up again yesterday, in Steinbach’s second visit of the season to Neepawa, as the Pistons completely dominated in a 10-3 victory.

The impressive Drew Worrard, acquired in the off-season in exchange for sniper Mackenzie Graham, had a four-point outing, including a hat trick, to pace the Pistons. Worrad, who missed nine games due to injury, now has eight goals and 15 points in only seven games and would no doubt be among the MJHL scoring leaders along with teammate Bradley Schoonbaert, had he not missed those games.

For his part, Schoonbaert continued his incredible scoring pace as he added a goal and two assists last night in Neepawa to pad his MJHL-leading totals to 33 points in 16 games, on 15 goals and 18 assists, and a four-point lead on Connor Barley of the Selkirk Steelers.

Will Koop and Brendan Martin also each had a goal and two assists for the Pistons while Tyson McConnell scored twice, with his second a coming on a penalty shot in the third. The newly acquired Daniel McKitrick rounded out the scoring for the Pistons.

Matthew Thiessen picked up the win in net for the Pistons as the visitors outshot the Natives 51-31.

Two other important games Sunday night saw the OCN Blizzard double the Portage Terriers 4-2 and the Winkler Flyers crushed the Selkirk Steelers 7-1.

With last night’s win, the Pistons continue to lead the MJHL standings with 26 points on a sparkling 13-3 record. OCN (12-3-2) also has 26 points, but has one fewer win and has played one more game than the Pistons. The Flyers are just two points back on a record of 12-3.

The Pistons now have the week off and will return to action next weekend with a pair of games at Waywayseecappo with games against the Wolverines Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 4:00 p.m.
