No doubt the rest of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League is taking note of the charging Steinbach Pistons.

The defending champions, slow out of the gate losing their first two games of the season, which found them in last place for a time, have now won three straight, improving to 5-3 on the season and are tied for fourth in the standings.

Their latest victory came Wednesday in Steinbach over their arch rivals, the Portage Terriers, who came into the game with a 6-1 first place record.

But the Pistons bolted out the gate to take a 4-0 lead at the first intermission, and coasted to a 6-2 triumph over the Terriers.

Team captain Tyson McConnell led the Pistons with three goals, giving him a team-leading six on the season.

Brendan Martin, with two goals and an assist and a goal and an assist from Brady Tatro, rounded out the Steinbach scoring. Martin and Tatro are tied for sixth in the league scoring race, each with five goals and six assists.

Defenceman Troy Williams, acquired from the Terriers during the off-season, picked up four asssits in the game and now has 10 points on the season, second among all rearguards in the league.

The Pistons outshot the Terriers 39-27 as Matthew Radomsky made 25 saves to pick up the win in net for the Pistons.

Steinbach has scored 32 goals in eight games this season while allowing only 17, and a goal diffrerential of plus 15 is tops in the league. The Pistons have outscored their opposition 16-6 during this current win streak and are now just two points back of first place in the MJHL.

There is a good chance the Pistons will extend their win streak this weekend as they travel to the The Pas for a pair of games against the OCN Blizzard Friday and Saturday night. Puck drop both nights is at 7:00 p.m. The Blizzard are winless in seven games this season.

With their third game in three nights on the road this weekend, the Pistons will stop in Swan River on their way home Sunday night for a 6:00 p.m. clash against the Swan Valley Stampeders.
