The Steinbach Pistons suffered their first loss of the MJHL pre-season Tuesday night in a narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Winnipeg Blues at Bell MTS Iceplex.
Were it not for two early goals by the Blues in this contest, the outcome may have different as the visiting Pistons completely dominated the Blues through the first two frames, outshooting the Blues 29-9 through 40 minutes and 36-16 overall in the game.
Brayden Foreman beat Matt Radomsky with the game’s first goal just 3:31 after the opening face-off and Codey Behun made it 2-0 Blues less than two minutes later.
Troy Beauchemin, with his third goal of the pre-season, scored Steinbach’s lone goal in the second period and the Blues held on for the 2-1 victory.
The Pistons, now 3-1 in the pre-season, will play their final two pre-season games this weekend in a home-and-home series with the Selkirk Steelers, with the Pistons hosting the Steelers on Friday and the re-match going Saturday at Selkirk, with both those games getting underway at 7:30 p.m.
The Pistons, who are the reigning MJHL and ANAVET Cup champions, will open their MJHL regular season on Friday, Sept. 21, as they host the Waywayseecappo Wolverines at the T.G. Smith Centre in Steinbach.
