Pistons win 7th straight in dramatic fashion

Troy Williams and Tanner Mole provided the heroics as the Steinbach Pistons pulled out a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory over the Selkirk Steelers in Manitoba Junior Hockey League actiuon Tuesday night in Steinbach.

It was Steinbach’s seventh straight victory and third straight in extra time as it propelled the Pistons past the Swan Valley Stampeders into second place in the MJHL standings.

With the Steelers leading late in the game, stellar defenceman Troy Williams, who is having an all-star season for the Pistons, scored the tying goal with only 21 seconds remaining in regulation.

Then Williams set up the winner by Tanner Mole 3:39 into overtime. For the veteran Mole, an agitator and a physical presence for the Pistons who can score, it was  his 20th goal of the season.  Williams, the second highest scoring defenceman in the league, now has 44 points in 52 games.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first as Noah Basarab opened the scoring for the Steelers and Max Neill tied it for the Pistons. Colby Jacquet gave the Steelers the lead midway through the second, setting the stage for the dramatics late in the game. Defenceman Declan Graham had two assists in the game for the Pistons.

Matt Radomsky picked up the win in net for the Pistons with another strong performance as he made 27 saves in his 25th win of the season.

The Pistons now improve to 37-14-2-0, one point ahead of third place Swan Valley, but the Stampeders have three games in hand on the Pistons.

The Pistons hit the road this weekend for a pair of games in Dauphin against the Kings Friday and Saturday night. They will then return to home host the Winkler Flyers in a Louis Riel Day clash on Monday as the Pistons entertain the Flyers at 2:30 p.m. at the T.G. Smith Centre in Steinbach.
