Quarry Oaks is hosting the first two rounds of the Manitoba Men’s Amateur Golf Tournament this week as more than 100 of the provinces top amateur golfers teed it up in round one on Monday.

Breezy Bend’s Justin McDonald, who is having quite a summer on the links having captured the Manitoba Mid-Amateur title at Falcon Lake two weeks ago, is the first round leader at Quarry as he fired a four-under par 68 on Monday.

McDonald has a one shot leader over two players, Jacob Armstrong of St. Boniface and Eric Johnson of Breezy Bend. Ryan McMillan of Elmhurst, who defended his Manitoba Junior title last week, is alone in fourth with a one under 71.

Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club’s Troy Kehler is in the mix as he is in a tie for seventh place after opening with a 74.

Round two goes today at Quarry and then rounds three and four of the tournament will be played Wednesday and Thursday at Glendale Golf Club in Winnipeg.
