Red Wings down Huskies in CSHL playoff opener

Tim Plett scored four goals to power the Grunthal Red Wings to a 5-2 victory over the Steinbach Huskies in the opening game of the Carillon Senior Hockey League playoffs Monday night in Grunthal.

Plett scored twice in the first, once in the second and once in the third as the Red Wings skated to period leads of 2-1 and 3-2 in the opening game of the best of five quarter-final series.

Dylan Reimer also scored for the Red Wings in the third. Cole Cassie set up all four of Plett’s goals.

Jon Lawrance and Rich Olson replied for the Huskies.

Quinton Wiebe stopped 32 shots to pick up the win in the Grunthal net as the Red Wings outshot the Huskies 35-34.

Game two in the series will be played Saturday at 8:00 p.m. in Steinbach.

Game dates for the other quarter-final series, pitting the Springfield 98s against the La Broquerie Habs, have not yet been announced. Ste Anne and Red River both received first round playoff byes.
