With the extended school Christmas break finally over, the SRSS Sabres returned to action Wednesday in Steinbach as they defeated the Glenlawn Lions 4-1 in Winnipeg High School Hockey League play.

The win improved the Sabres record to a stupendous 11-3-1-1, second in the Winnipeg Free Press Division standings, three points back of the leading Sanford Sabres. Three points are awarded for a regulation time victory in this league.

Parker Janz, Keyan Grimard, Tyler Bueckert and Bailey Plett were the Steinbach goal scorers.

Avery Neufeld made 19 saves in net for the Sabres and lost his shutout bid when Glenlawn scored their lone goal with 1:51 remaining in the game. Neufeld, now 6-2 on the season, lowered his goals against average to 2.29.

The Sabres will next host the St. Paul’s Crusaders Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 4:00 p.m. in Steinbach.
