The SRSS Sabres continued their winning ways on home ice in Steinbach on Wednesday with a 5-2 Winnipeg High School League victory over the St. Paul’s Crusaders.

With the win in that important divisional match-up, the Sabres improve their record to 12-3-1-1 in the Winnipeg Free Press Division, second only to the Sanford Sabres and a point ahead of St. Paul’s.

Bailey Plett and team captain Eric Adams led the SRSS attack with two goals each while Tyler Bueckert added a single. Bueckert leads the team in scoring with 13 goals and 22 points in 17 games this season.

Hunter Neilson picked up the win in net for the Sabres making 26 saves. It looked like Neilson was headed for a shutout until St. Paul’s scored two goals late in  the third just a minute apart.

The Sabres return to action on home ice Monday afternoon as they entertain the Kildonan East Reivers at 3:30 p.m. at the T.G. Smith Centre.

Four members  of the Sabres: goaltender Avery Neufeld, defenceman Eric Toews, and forwards Eric Adams and Tyler Bueckert will also be play in the WHSHL all-star game Sunday at Bell MTS Iceplex. The Winnipeg Free Press Division all-stars will take to the ice at 2:00 p.m., with the other divisional all-star games to be played at 12 noon and 4:00 p.m.
