The Carillon Sultans Manitoba Junior Baseball League home opener, scheduled for tonight (Friday) in Steinbach has been postponed due to the rain and wet grounds.

Carillon opened the season with four games on the road, posting a 1-3 record along the way, including a narrow 1-0 loss to the Pembina Valley Orioles Wednesday night at Morden.

In that 1-0 game, the Sultans’ Nik Kauenhofen flirted with a no-hitter going into the bottom of the seventh inning as he has dominated the Pembina Valley hitters as they came up to their final at bat. Kauenhofen walked the lead-off hitter, who eventually advanced to third on an error and Pembina Valley won the game on an RBI single, scoring the game’s only run, and breaking up Kauenhofen’s bid for a no-hitter.

The Sultans will host the Brandon Marlins in a doubleheader on Victoria Day Monday at Ile des Chenes, with games set for 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.
