The Carillon Sultans dropped a 7-1 decision to a strong Elmwood Giants squad Wednesday night in a Manitoba Junior Baseball League contest played at Koskie Field in Winnipeg.

Carillon, missing several regular players on the night, fell behind early as the Giants scored four times in the first and never looked back.

Nik Kauenhofen scored Carillon’s lone run in the fourth as he reached base on an error and eventually scored on an RBI single by Keyan Grimard. Noah Vogt took the loss on the mound for the Sultans.

The Sultans remain in sixth place in the MJBL standings, now with a 7-11 record. The second place Giants improved to 13-5. St. James leads the loop with a 17-3 mark.

Next up for the Sultans will be a home date in Steinbach on Wednesday, July 4 as they entertain the Interlake Blue Jays at 7:00 p.m. at A.D. Penner Park.
