After losing the first two games of the series by a single run Sunday and Monday, the Carillon Sultans finally won a one-run decision of their own Tuesday night in Winnipeg as they edged the Elmwood Giants 5-4 in game three of the Manitoba Junior Baseball League semi-finals.

Elmwood won the first two games of the series 2-1 and 9-8, rallying late in both contests to prevail.  The Giants still lead the best of five series 2-1, but with Carillon’s timely game three victory, they staved off elimination and brought this series back to Steinbach.

Game four will be played tonight (Wednesday) at 7:00 p.m. at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach.  If the Sultans win tonight, the deciding game of the series will be played Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Charleswood Park.

Also last night, the St. James A’s defeated the Pembina Valley 7-4 Orioles  to take a 2-1 lead in their series. Game four goes tonight in Morden.

Tied 4-4 after five innings last night in another tight game between the Giants and Sultans, Carillon scored the winning run in the top of the fifth as Cody Bartel crossed home plate scoring on a sac fly by Kaan Bitchok. It was Bitchok’s third RBI of the night.

Reid Howard picked up the win on the mound for the Sultans, coming on in relief of Jared Esau in the fifth. Howard sent the Giants down in order in the seventh to lock down the victory, including striking out a pair.

Nick Grenier and Jared Esau each singled and doubled for the Sultans in the game.

The Sultans scored three runs in the second and added singles in the third and sixth innings while the Giants scored single runs in the first and second innings and added two more in the fifth.

Game time again tonight in Steinbach is 7:00 p.m. at A.D. Penner Park.
