The Steinbach Huskies are still looking for their first win in this Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League season.

They came close last night in Steinbach as the Huskies lost in 3-2 in overtime to the defending champion Springfield Xtreme.

It was Steinbach’s second overtime loss of the season and their second one-goal defeat in their last two games, so they’re knocking on the door, it seems.

Matt Lamoureux scored the winner for the Xtreme 1:45 into overtime. Tied 1-1 after the first and 2-2 after 40 minutes, the Huskies received powerplay goals from Nico Chiasson and Blair McGowan. Jesse Mitchell had both regulation time goals for the Xtreme.

KC Lehman made 33 saves for the Xtreme while Bailey Funk stopped 34 for the Huskies.

It was the second straight overtime victory for the Xtreme as they also beat the Red River Mudbugs in OT on Saturday.

With the win, the Xtreme jumped into a first place tie with the St Adolphe Hawks, each with 14 points. Springfield has a 7-2-0 mark while the Hawks are at 6-1-1-1.

HTJHL play resumes Saturday night with three games on tap as St. Adolphe hosts Steinbach,   Red River is at Mitchell and Springfield entertains Lorette at Oakbank. All three of those games get underway at 8:00 p.m.
