Both the host Southeast Prairie Thunder and the Ile des Chenes North Stars have completed round robin play at the 2016 Allan Cup in Steinbach with 1-1 records, second in their respective pools, and will be in action later today (Thursday) in the quarter-finals, in their quest to win the 108th Allan Cup.

The Bentley Generals and the Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts both won their pools and advance straight to Friday’s semi-finals against the winners of today’s quarter-final games.

The Cataracts finished at 2-0 with a 3-2 victory over Shellbrook Wednesday night in the final game of the round robin in the six-team tournament.

Bentley edged the North Stars 4-3 in the earlier game as the North Stars took a 3-2 lead into the third but the Generals rallied with two goals in the final 20 minutes, with the winner coming with just 1:55 remaining. Former Manitoba Moose Lee Goren led the North Stars with a goal and two assists.

The North Stars will face the Shellbrook Elks at 4:00 p.m. and then the Prairie Thunder will go up against Stoney Creek at 8:00 p.m. in today’s quarter-finals.

Winners advance to Friday’s semi-finals, also at 4:00 and 8:00 p.m. The championship game will be played Saturday at 3:00 p.m. Individual game tickets for all games are still available at the arena.
