Sultans headed to MJBL all-star game

Five members of the Carillon Sultans will be participating in the Manitoba Junior Baseball League all-star game Saturday afternoon at Shaw Park, home of the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

Leading the way for the Sultans into Saturday’s all-star clash will be Nic Kauenhofen, who has done it all for the Sultans this year. Not only does he lead the league with 29 RBI’s this season, he has also been a workhorse on the mound and is tied for the league lead with five wins this season.

Rounding out the Carillon all-star selections are Nick Grenier, Liam Lenton, Jared Esau and Noah Vogt, who is third in the league batting race this season with a .435 average.

In addition, Carillon manager and coach Alex Grenier will be one of the coaches assisting at the all-star game. The Carillon contingent will join up with the three Winnipeg teams: St. James A’s, Elmwood Giants and St. Boniface Legionaires in the all-star tilt. They will go up against all-stars from the four remaining rural teams: Brandon Marlins, Altona Bisons, Interlake Blue Jays and Pembina Valley Orioles.

Game time Saturday at Shaw Park is 2:00 p.m.

Following Saturday’s all-star game, the Sultans only have four games remaining in the regular season next week.  Their next action will be Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Whittier Park against the St. Boniface Legionaires in the first of a home and home series next week against the Legionaries. The Sultans will host St. Boniface in the re-match Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach.

Carillon will close out the regular season on Saturday, July 15 as they entertain in the Brandon Marlins in doubleheader action at Ile des Chenes, with games slated to go at 1:00 and 4:00 p.m.

The Sultans head into the final week of the regular in fourth place in the MJBL standings with an 11-9 record.
