Pistons dominant in win over OCN Blizzard

The Steinbach Pistons are back into first place in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League standings following their 7-0 victory over the OCN Blizzard Sunday in Steinbach in a battle for first place.

Steinbach leads the loop with a 10-3 record  and 20 points, the identical record as the Winkler Flyers. OCN also has 20 points, but falls to third with a 9-3-2 mark. Steinbach and OCN have been back and fourth into place since the start of the season.

Earlier this month when OCN came to town, the Pistons blanked the Blizzard 5-0 behind the shutout goaltending of Matt Radomsky. Radomsky  was in nets again last night but was tested only 13 times as the Pistons dominated outshooting the Blizzard 49-13.

The line of Bradley Schoonbaert, Braden Purtill and Drew Worrad set the pace as they totalled 11 points in the blowout. Schoonbaert stayed atop the MJHL scoring race as he picked up two goals and two assists on the night. Purtill also had a four-point outing with a goal and three assists while Worrard scored once and assisted on two others.

Austin Heidemann, Jack Johnson and Brady Tatro added singles for the Pistons.

The Pistons also beat the Swan Valley Stampeders 5-4 in overtime Friday in Steinbach with the winner coming from defenceman Darby Gula on the powerplay.

Schoonbaert leads the MJHL scoring race with 27 points, including 12 goals in 13 games and has a three-point edge on Jeremey Leipsic of the Portage Terriers. Purtill is third with 23 points, and also has 12 goals.

In a weird quirk to the schedule, the Pistons host the last place Waywayseecappo Wolverines twice this week with Wayway coming to town Wednesday and Friday. Puck drop at the T.G. Smith Centre is 7:30 p.m. in both games.
