About Richard Davies

When were you born?

Between 1981 and 1996 (Millennial)

Tell our readers a bit about your professional life. What do you do for a living? If you're an incumbent candidate, what did you do before you entered politics?

My relatively short adult career has been split between the hospitality service industry (private sector) and public service as the Director of Research and Legislative Affairs with the Manitoba Liberal Caucus. Most recently, I was the Constituency Assistant to Dougald Lamont.

What's the highest level of education you've attained?

Bachelor's degree

How long have you lived in the constituency? If you don't currently live there, what led you to run there instead of where you live?

I do not live - nor have I lived - in the constituency of Agassiz. Although less than 2 miles from the Agassiz border, I spent at least 8 years of my life on my parents' farm, where my family and I immigrated to from Wales in 2003. Many experiences and conversations in and around the Agassiz constituency, whether at beautiful Big Valley, at the 4-H Fat Stock Show in Neepawa, or with friends in Arden.

What is the biggest challenge facing your constituency, and how would you address it?

The biggest challenge facing Agassiz is the ability to access timely and accessible health care. That is why we have committed to addressing the rural doctor shortage by creating more training spots. This will be done by working with Brandon University to create a satellite medical school with the goal of training doctors in the communities in which they live.

If elected, what will be your first priority?

My priority will be to work together to enact the platform commitments, along with working with other parties and Manitobans to find creative solutions to addressing the needs of the Agassiz constituency.

Who are your role models in politics, and why?

Politicians are not role models in my eyes. They are servants of the public and I believe they should be seen as equals.
