About Tim Burt

When were you born?

Between 1946 and 1965 (Baby Boomer)

Tell our readers a bit about your professional life. What do you do for a living? If you're an incumbent candidate, what did you do before you entered politics?

I was an investment professional for 47 years and founded and managed my own investment firm for 30 years. I also taught finance classes at the University of Manitoba for 8 years. I am now retired.

What's the highest level of education you've attained?

Master's degree

How long have you lived in the constituency? If you don't currently live there, what led you to run there instead of where you live?

43 years

What is the biggest challenge facing your constituency, and how would you address it?

Quality of life for its aging population. I would like to improve the side walks and keep them free of snow and ice as much as possible. Falling is a real danger for seniors. I would also like to see a more frequent police presence in the neighborhood to reduce home and garage break-ins. However, these are all municipal issues not provincial. I would also like to make it easier for first time home buyers to buy in River Heights.

If elected, what will be your first priority?

Find ways to reduce inflation and lower the cost of living. Reduce property taxes for seniors in order to allow them to stay in their homes longer. Work to eliminate deficit spending and pay down provincial debt. Build a new concert hall for the WSO.

Who are your role models in politics, and why?

Barrack Obama, because he had real empathy for common people and cared about their well-being.

Tell us something about yourself that voters might find surprising.

I am a strong supporter of the arts having served as President of the WSO for four years. I am a big fan of classical music, especially Mahler and Bruckner. I also like to build Lego sets.
