About Dennis Yaeger

When were you born?

Between 1946 and 1965 (Baby Boomer)

Tell our readers a bit about your professional life. What do you do for a living? If you're an incumbent candidate, what did you do before you entered politics?

I'm a recently retired Railroader. I worked for 35+ years at CN Rail as a Conductor. The hours and schedule were quite the challenge, but at the end of the day it's satisfying to be able to work and provide a comfortable life for my family.

What's the highest level of education you've attained?

Bachelor's degree

How long have you lived in the constituency? If you don't currently live there, what led you to run there instead of where you live?

In the community where I now live, we already have a long standing Manitoba Liberal Party MLA, Dr. Jon Gerrard.

Alternatively, I have very deep roots in the constituency of St. John's. It's where I'm from. I grew up in West Kildonan. I graduated from West Kildonan Collegiate in 1977. Representing the constituency of St. John's in the Manitoba Legislature would be a nice way to give back to the community I came from.

What is the biggest challenge facing your constituency, and how would you address it?

The biggest challenge in St. John's isn't much different than that of the rest of our province. Years of mismanagement and neglect have left Health Care in the Province of Manitoba in a pretty sad state.

We need to listen to those on the front lines providing the care and act on their recommendations. We need to invest significantly in virtually all areas of health care. There's no reason why Manitoba can't lead the nation when it comes to the quality of health care. We just have to care. Simple as that.

If elected, what will be your first priority?

My first priority will be that the voices and concerns of the constituents of St. Johns are heard.

Who are your role models in politics, and why?

I admire Tommy Douglas for his pioneering efforts in creating Medicare.

Currently I look up to people like Dr. Jon Gerrard. He talks about the issues like a doctor who is concerned for the well being of his patients. He doesn't focus on bashing the other two parties just to make himself look good.

Tell us something about yourself that voters might find surprising.

I enjoy marathon running
