A Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame fundraising initiative currently has the Vic Peters teams over a six-year period from the 1990’s currently eighth in the People’s Choice voting for Manitoba’s Most Notable Curling Team in history.
Initially, a list of the Top 25 most notable teams from the province were listed. The Peters teams from 1992 to 1997, considered one of the top curling teams in the world during that time, were included on the list. The legendary Peters, who passed away in 2016, and his longtime second Chris Neufeld, are both Steinbach natives.
In order to place a vote, a donation must be made to the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame & Museum.
Leading the way in the voting to date is one of Manitoba’s most recent champions, Kerri Einarson and her 2020 National Scotties National Championship team, who missed their chance to go to a World Championship due to the pandemic.
Also listed among the 10 teams of the Top 25 most notable teams include some of the greatest names in our province’s rich curling history, including Terry Braunstein, Kelly Mackenzie, Kerry Burtnyk, Don Duguid, Jennifer Jones and Connie Laliberte.
Vic Peters went on an incredible run in the years 1992-1997, where they won three Manitoba titles and a Brier championship. He finished first in the round robin at all three of his Brier appearances, including 1992 in Regina, winning the Brier that year downing Russ Howard in the final. They also finished first the following year in Ottawa and then he went a perfect 11-0 in 1997 in Calgary, losing in the Brier final to Kevin Martin.
