Although it appears the local golf season will not be getting underway anytime soon, nonetheless planning is underway for a trio of major events to be hosted this season at the Quarry Oaks golf course near Steinbach.

Earlier this month it was announced that Quarry Oaks has been selected as one of the host courses for the 2022 RBC PGA Scramble Regional Finals.

The Regional Finals, to be held Aug. 29 at Quarry, is one 11 Regional Finals being held across the country.

Players that have qualified from their local qualifiers earlier in the summer will be competing in the Regional Final at Quarry Oaks.

Considered the premier amateur team golf tournament in the country, the 2022 edition of the PGA Scramble expects to see more than 10,000 golfers participate in over 150 local qualifiers throughout the country, including several in Manitoba.

The national final will be held Oct. 2-4 at Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.

Quarry Oaks head pro Darren Hayden said the club has hosted a local qualifier the past few years and decided to make a bid to host the Regional Final this year.

Quarry Oaks will also be the host club of two significant events in June, including the Manitoba Match Play Championship June 2-5, and the Prairie Next Gen Championship June 10-12.
