The Junior A hockey season in Canada came to a spectacular end May 18, as the host Calgary Canucks defeated the Melfort Mustangs to win the 2025 Centennial Cup.
A three-goal explosion in the second period turned a tight 1-1 game into a blowout, with the Canucks eventually winning 7-2.
“The guys, to a man, bought in. Everyone gave us what they needed, whether that was in practice, minimal ice time or whatever it was, and they all play for each other and that’s the main reason we’re here – we don’t have individuals,” Calgary head coach Brad Moran said in a Hockey Canada news release after the game.

“For the organization to get back after being close last year, we weren’t satisfied and the guys that were there helped push us over the top. It’s a pretty special moment, especially the guys that have been through it.”
Manitoba’s representative, the Northern Manitoba Blizzard, fell 4-0 in the quarterfinals to the Rockland Nationals May 16.
The Blizzard had a chance to top their preliminary round group by winning a May 14 showdown against the Grande Prairie Storm, but ended up losing 6-3.
It was a crazy first period, with the teams exchanging goals. The Storm entered the first intermission with a 3-2 lead, before adding on a pair of second period markers to clinch a victory. The Blizzard finished pool play with a 2-0-1-1 record.
The Manitoba Junior Hockey League will still be hosting an event this May, with the leagues annual prospect camp set for May 30/31 at the Seven Oaks Sportsplex.
