The Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s defending champions have found their new head coach/general manager.

After Eric Labrosse left the Northern Manitoba Blizzard, the franchise moved quickly to replace him, naming Ty Valin as their new bench boss.

“Being named Head Coach/ GM of the Northern Manitoba Blizzard in the MJHL is an incredible opportunity,” Valin said in a Blizzard news release.

“I want to sincerely thank the White family for the opportunity to lead their organization. I’m extremely excited to meet all the players and staff, and get to work preparing for the season.”

Valin was born and raised in Alberta and spent his junior career playing in the B.C. and Alberta junior A leagues, winning the 1999 Centennial Cup with Vernon.

Following his playing career, he jumped right into coaching, leading Fort Saskatchewan junior B and U18 teams, before moving to the AJHL.

Valin spent the last three seasons as the head coach and general manager of the Fernie Ghostriders of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.
