Steinbach Christian School’s Alexandria Buhler turned in a dominant performance in winning the gold medal in the Varsity Girls’ Discus at the Provincial High School Track and Field Championships during the weekend at the University of Manitoba.

Buhler had a winning toss of 36.70 metres, obliterating the field. Jessica Buhler of Warren Collegiate and Reed Favoni-Grossart of Dakota Collegiate tied for second, with tosses of 30.01 metres.

Chloe Manaigre of College Gabrielle Roy in Ile des Chenes also won gold in a throwing event as she won the Varsity Girls’ Shot Put with a toss of 11.19 metres, finishing well ahead of runner-up Jessica Monkman of Arborg, who came in second at 10.21 metres.

There were two medals won by SRSS athletes, both in running events. Paige Heide placed third in the Varsity Girls’ 3,000 metre run while Reese Tufford also took bronze in the Junior Varsity Girls’ 1,500 metre run.

Niverville girls also had success as they raced to the bronze medal in the 4x400 metre Junior Varsity Girls’ Relay.

There were also silver medals won by Steinbach Regional’s Loperz Dolice in the Junior Varsity Boys’ Triple Jump; and by Jennifer Feichtinger of Shevchenko School in the Junior Varsity Girls’ 80-metre Hurdles.

Athletes from Ste. Anne Collegiate did well in the Para-Intellectual events. Dawson Schmidt won a pair of medals, including gold in the Boys’ 200 Metre Dash and silver in the 100 Metre Dash while Christine Klyne also won silver in the Girls’ Shot Put.

In all, there were more than 1,200 athletes from across province competing at the U of M.
