Despite their steady progression this season, the Mitchell Mohawks couldn’t overcome the first place and defending champion Springfield Xtreme in Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League action Thursday night in Mitchell.

The Xtreme, 5-2 winners over the Mohawks, improved their front-running record to 13-4-0-0, and a five-point lead on the Lorette Comets and six ahead of the St. Adolphe Hawks. However, the Hawks have four games in hand on the Xtreme.

Matt Lamoureux and Jesse Mitchell led the Xtreme with two goals each while Riley Thomson picked up four assists on the night. Steven Friesen and Trenton Plett replied for the Mohawks.

Trey Blank made 35 saves in the Springfield net while Luke Friesen also had a strong game in a losing cause making 41 saves for the mohawks.

There are two HTJHL games on tap Friday night as Lorette hosts Red River at 8:00 p.m. and Steinbach entertains St. Adolphe at 8:15 p.m.
