A very messy and dirty annual event has decided to switch things up this summer and bring the mud and dirt to Grunthal.
Mud Hero Manitoba will host their sixth annual event at the Grunthal Motocross Park (Grunthal MX) on July 14 after holding their last five Manitoba-based events in the Grand Beach area.
"We try to incorporate change and something the best change you can have is to change locations," Ted McLeod one of the founders of the annual Mud Hero events said.
Mud Hero events see participants run or walk through muddy and difficult terrain, while also having to overcome both natural and man-made obstacles along the route.
McLeod said the terrain and the environment in and around Grunthal MX is a perfect fit for a Mud Hero event.
"We look for interesting terrain and natural obstacles and things people can run up and down," McLeod said. "This location has lots of features that were of interest to us, and we thought those who take part in Mud Hero would really enjoy these features."
The Mud Hero event in Grunthal will feature a six and a more challenging 10-km course as well as a 500 metre course set up for children and youth.
McLeod said Mud Hero is a popular event because anyone of any fitness level can participate and feel comfortable while taking part.
"We have participants of all fitness levels doing Mud Hero," McLeod said. "We see everything from very serious competitors to some who walk the course and pick their obstacles because they are there to have fun and be outside with their friends."
The Mud Hero event in Grunthal will also see showers on sight where participants can clean up after they are finished, and an after-party that will feature a beer garden, a DJ and a 10,000 watt sound system.
"I think of Mud Hero as being a recess for adults," McLeod said. "Adults can go outside, run around and get messy and let off some steam and some stress.
"It’s a chance for adults to get dirty and have fun with their friends."
The sixth annual Manitoba Mud Hero event takes place July 14 at Grunthal MX, and anyone looking to get more information on race times or on how to register can visit mudhero.com.
The Carillon Sultans saw their Manitoba Junior Baseball League season come to an end Thursday night in Winnipeg as they lost 7-4 to the St. Boniface Legionaires in the third and deciding game of their MJBL quarter-final series.
