The Carillon Sultans have advanced to the Manitoba Junior Baseball League semi-finals.

Carillon swept the Interlake Blue Jays 2-0 in the best of three quarter-finals, scoring a 5-4 come-from-behind victory Wednesday night at Stonewall to complete the sweep. The Sultans blanked the Blue Jays 10-0 in the opener Monday night in Steinbach.

The Sultans will now face the defending champion Elmwood Giants in the best of five semi-finals. Elmwood swept the St. Boniface Legionaires in their quarter-finals series, doubling the Legionaires 8-4 last night at St. Boniface.

Elmwood finished second in the regular season standings this season with a 17-7 record while the Sultans were fourth at 12-12.

Last night at Stonewall, with the Sultans clinging to a 3-2 lead after five, the Blue Jays scored twice in the bottom of the sixth on a twp-run homer by Bailey Proctor to take the lead as they threatened to send this series back to Steinbach.

But the Sultans responded with two runs in the top of the seventh and held on for the victory. They scratched their two key runs on a pair of hits, two stolen bases, an error and a wild pitch, to eventually get the job done. Ashton Meilleur scored the tying run and Noah Vogt the winning run. Meilleur and Nik Kauenhofen each had a pair of hits for the Sultans in the contest.

Jared Esau was the winner on the mound for the Sultans.

The semi-finals will be played five straight days next week, if necessary, beginning Sunday in Winnipeg. Carillon home games will be Monday and Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach.
