Anne Burns stepped into her new role as CAO of the rural municipality of La Broquerie just as they declared a local state of emergency.

Her first week was a busy one but Burns is no stranger to working in municipal government.

Burns, a Winnipeg resident, began her municipal government career working for the City of Kitchener in Ontario.

After working there for a number of years, Burns began taking courses to help further her career in municipal government.

During that time, Burns’ husband was in the military and she came to Manitoba after he was posted here. She was off work for about a year and took more courses during that time.

In 2004, Burns began working for the RM of Springfield as the manager of administration and finance, a role she said is similar to an assistant CAO. She adds during this time, she worked with current La Broquerie councillor Larry Tetrault, who was Springfield’s CAO at the time.

After about four or five years in Springfield, Burns moved back to Ontario and then once again back to Manitoba. She then worked for the RM of Cartier for five years and most recently worked for the Town of Stonewall.

Burns said her door is always open and she wants to provide good service to people in a positive manner.

“If there are issues, I want people to come and talk to me about them. Even if I can’t give the right answer that they want, I want them to know that they’re more than welcome to discuss what their concerns are,” she said.

Burns adds that she’s excited to get to know and work with the staff at the RM of La Broquerie and build a really strong team for the community.
