Steinbach RCMP said Friday evening they have apprehended a man who had been giving dangerous drugs to youth.
Police said this afternoon they were actively searching for a man in Steinbach who has been selling or, in some instances, giving away for free, a drug described as ‘oxy,’ ‘blue lightning’ or ‘blue stamps.’
Steinbach RCMP Staff Sgt. Harold Laninga said they believe the drug may be OxyContin, a prescription painkiller that has become a dangerous recreation drug. He said it may prove fatal in certain doses, especially when mixed with fentanyl like what is happening in the city.
Laninga said this evening it is believed not all pills have been accounted for, so people are asked to be vigilant and express concerns with our youth.
“This is a drug right now that someone is handing out to kids in our community that’s incredibly dangerous,” he said.
