The province has rescinded all burning permits in central and eastern Manitoba and various municipalities in southeastern Manitoba have imposed bans on open fires as a result of high winds and dry conditions.

Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship advised Tuesday morning that all burning permits issued, extending from the United States border to the south, through the Interlake to Gypsumville and Berens River in the north and east to the Ontario border, have been cancelled.

This news follows announcements from various municipalities, including Hanover, La Broquerie, Ste Anne, Tache, Ritchot, Stuartburn and Emerson-Franklin, that they have implemented bans on open fires.

The prohibition targets the intentional setting of fires in grass and brush.

Anyone with questions about what and when they can burn should contact their local municipality.

A man passed away yesterday when a fire the size of two football fields ravaged through a dwelling and property near Halbstadt, a community 20 km southeast of Altona.
