The province has announced intentions of studying traffic flows at two busy intersections along PR 311. Niverville town council has been pushing for these studies for years and councilor Myron Dyck is relieved to hear the province is going to take a look at two areas where increased traffic is causing safety concerns.

One high traffic area is where the 311 meets PTH 59.

“It makes sense to continue twinning the next section of the 59 through that intersection,” said Dyck. “We’ve been letting them know this is an extremely busy corner and asking them to make it a priority. The corner is a hazard.”

Dyck told The Carillon that corner gets even busier and more dangerous during the summer months when there is a lot of “camper traffic.”

“For traffic going eastbound on the 311 and then wanting to turn north, they will turn south for half a mile and then make a U-turn because it’s often the only way to get into the northbound lane.”

The province will also conduct a traffic study at the intersection of 311 (Main Street) and Fifth Avenue at the east end of Niverville.
