Pallister rallies Tory support in Dawson Trail

Brian Pallister, the man who would be premier, visited Landmark in what amounted to a pep rally Friday for supporters hoping to turn Dawson Trail blue.

The Progressive Conservative leader kept his remarks brief before mingling with about 30 backers at Bob Lagasse’s campaign office in the late afternoon.

“We have presented exactly what we’re going to do, priced it and then showed everybody where we’re going to find the savings and the waste and pay for those promises,” said Pallister.

He used a sports analogy, as he so often does, to drive home the PC’s work isn’t done, no matter what the polls say.

“I learned long time ago from my sports days, you never ever jog to first base and we’re not at first base yet, so let’s keep working and working right through the finish line,” Pallister said to cheers.

Though Pallister appears set to be the next premier, there are no shortcuts to victory where now-retired MLA Ron Lemieux has won, a race the PCs have come up short four times before. The constituency is seen as a riding in play, acknowledged by Pallister making his first campaign appearance in the dying days before Tuesday’s vote.

“They can see I’m going in a positive direction, and they’re here to support us and thank us for our hard work,” said Lagasse.
