A semi truck fire led to a complete loss of the rented storage building it was located in Thursday afternoon in Niverville.

Niverville fire chief Keith Bueckert said the department got a call of a truck on fire but were later updated it was a semi truck on fire inside a building.

“Once we got to the scene, the south part of the building was completely engulfed,” said Bueckert. “We have a total loss here for the truck and the building.”

Rod Friesen, the building’s owner, said the space is rented out as storage for trucks and has an apartment inside.

The building was located on Heritage Trail, just south of the town’s Main Street.

“One of the rental clients was working on the interior of his truck and the truck caught fire,” said Friesen.

Bueckert notes the fire department isn’t completely certain what caused the fire at this time.

“It’s terrible to see,” said Friesen. “It’s going to be a complete loss.”

The RM of Ritchot fire department was called to assist with the fire. There were no injuries.

The Office of the Fire Commissioner was contacted but they won’t be investigating at this time, Bueckert said.
