Lorette Immersion wants better playground

Increasing enrolment at Lorette Immersion means the school has outgrown its playground, Seine River School Division trustees heard Tuesday night.

Gerrie Stolz, president of the school’s parent advisory council, asked for the trustees’ support for the first step in a suggested multi-year revival of the K-8 school’s playground that she said is no longer sufficient.

Stolz listed the committee’s five priorities this summer as leveling the soccer pitch, constructing an outdoor classroom with a roof, forming a play hill, installing a curb around the asphalt pad and repairing the existing pathway.

This work comes with a $30,000 price tag.

School trustees agreed to write a letter of grant support for the committee. They also decided to write a letter to the RM of Tache questioning their decision to not support the project financially because the school playground is on private. Several trustees in the room said that other municipalities have previously backed school projects beneficial to the community at large.
