Steinbach city council gave third reading on Tuesday night to a large condominium project which will replace four single-family properties on Third Street, across from Fernwood Place.

The G&E Homes project was first brought to council as a rezoning request in December but opposition forced a municipal board hearing on the matter. Neighbours expressed concerns about the project, first proposed as two, six-storey units at 310, 314, 324 and 326 Third Street.

Council approved the rezoning but limited the project to four storeys rather than six. Each building will consist of 60 units.

The municipal board decision supported council’s decision and gave authorization for the city to give the project final approval, which council did with a third reading of the zoning bylaw on Tuesday night.
