A seven-month-old girl has died after a collision on the Trans-Canada Highway at Richer on Tuesday night.
Steinbach RCMP received a report shortly after 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening that an eastbound vehicle had collided with the rear end of a pulp truck near the highway’s intersection with Provincial Road 302.
Initially it was believed injuries to the vehicle’s 30-year-old female driver and her child were minor. Both were transported to a local hospital but the girl was later transported to Winnipeg hospital where her condition worsened.
Shortly before noon on Wednesday, police said they were told the child had died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the truck was not injured in the incident.
Police said alcohol and weather conditions are not believed to be a factor in the accident. A traffic analyst continues to investigate.
