Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen helped kick off the province’s free influenza immunization campaign in Steinbach on Friday morning.

Goertzen, the province’s health minister, noted that flu vaccines protect not only the person getting the shot but helps to prevent serious illness for others, like newborns, who unable to receive it.

This year’s quadrivalent vaccine protects Manitobans against two influenza A strains and two influenza B strains. Manitobans over the age of 65 can also receive a pneumococcal vaccine which helps protect against pneumonia, blood infections and meningitis.
